In the forest, Ben Lora.

Its been a windy, cold week with three severe gales interspersed with sleet and snow and thundery hail thrown in for good measure. Several trees are down in the forest blocking one of the tracks. By Friday the wind had eased and there was a covering of snow.

Around Ballachulish Oct 14

Spent a few days about half an hour north of home taking pictures in the Ballachulish and Glencoe area. Autumn clours and the first snow of the coming winter.

Steve has published a book of stunning photos

"A Rugged Radiance"
This collection of my images shows the area in many lights and all seasons of the year - as I like to remember it when I'm away from the mountains, lochs and seascapes.
Many of the photographs are taken around Benderloch but I've extended the selection through the mainly coastal areas of the east side of Loch Linnhe to include images from the Loch Etive area in the south, northwards through Glencoe and on to the slopes around Ben Nevis.

Christmas photos

Timber operations in Ben Lora forest have stopped for the holiday and judging by the snow cover on Dec 27th I'm sure the guys are happier to be indoors for a few days.

November cold

At the end of November we've had a prolonged spell of cold weather with windless days. These photos were taken from outside Dunstaffnage Castle just north of Oban over several days.

Looking over the bay at Dunstaffnage marina Connel Bridge marks the entrance to Loch Etive and the distant mountain is Ben Cruachan.

Migrating birds

Over the past week there's been a huge increase in the number of small birds migrating through the area. Of particular interest has been watching fieldfares (and others) stripping Rowan (mountain ash) trees of their berries in a matter of hours.
